Overhead Line Insulators Ppt, Porcelain Long Rod Insulators, Ceramic Power Line Insulators

Porcelain electrical insulators are generally used in electrical systems for preventing the unwanted flow of current to the surface from varied supporting points. These insulators play an important role in electrical systems. These are high resistive tracks through which no current can practically flow. In distribution and transmission systems, overhead conductors are supported by different varieties of supporting poles and towers. These poles and towers are grounded properly.

Hence, it is important that an Porcelain electrical insulators  remains in between these pole and tower bodies for preventing the flow of current from the conductors to the earth by way of the grounded supporting poles or towers.

Speaking of insulator material, porcelain remains the most common material used for making the present day overhead insulators. The porcelain used is basically aluminum silicate which is blended with feldspar, plastic kaolin and quartz for obtaining final glazed and hard porcelain insulator material. It is necessary for the insulator surface to be glazed sufficiently do water is not traced into it.

The porcelain used should also remain free of porosity because porosity results in the deterioration of the dielectric properties of an insulator. The porcelain should also be free of air bubbles and impurities that might affect the properties of the insulator. For ensuring high strength, it is always a good deal to go for a solid core post insulator.
